Poltimore House is a Grade II* listed property on the edge of Exeter in Devon. A family home from the 15th century, in the 1920s, it then became a girls school for some years before being used by Dover College during WW2 for evacuation purposes. In the 1950s and 60s it was converted into a hospital for maternity and surgical purposes and thereafter became a nursing home following its sale by the Health Authority.
Sadly Poltimore House was subject to arson in 1987 and thereafter was unoccupied; whilst security was maintained , the fabric of the building deteriorated during this time. The Poltimore House Trust owns the house and grounds, and was formed in 2000 with the aim of bringing this building and its grounds back into use with and for its community, the support of which continues to grow.
Since then The Poltimore House Trust was formed and the House has become a location for music, theatre, art and activities. From performances by theatre groups, art installations and exhibitions, to the Poltimore Festival and the annual Christmas Concert, Poltimore has also been a venue for music videos, movies and storytelling.
The Trust is looking for a Trust Secretary to help strengthen the board of trustees as the charity moves forward with its plans for the restoration of Poltimore House. As custodians our vision is to combine therapy and the arts in order to provide a sustainable future for the house.
Our previous Trust Secretary was instrumental in organising the trustees, attending to the Trust’s statutory requirements and organising meetings and so this is a very important position to fill. Whether you have an interest in the historic building and its grounds, or in Arts Therapy, or would simply like to help our organisation run smoothly, please do get in touch with our Recruitment Partner, Jackie Dawkins of Shine Charity Recruitment and take a look at our Information Pack for more details. firstname.lastname@example.org 01884/841751
