|Title||Trustees – Exmoor|
|Categories||Charity Jobs, Trustee Roles|
When you think of Exmoor, you inevitably think of the Exmoor Pony. It is hard to believe that sixty years ago there were only fifty ponies worldwide. Thanks to the work of The Moorland Mousie Trust and others, today that number stands at around 3000 but the breed remains on the endangered species list.
Based at the Exmoor Pony Centre near Dulverton, the Moorland Mousie Trust promotes and protects these special ponies by providing a future for the excess foals that are removed from the moor each year during the annual pony herd gathering. This is achieved by working with each foal, using natural horsemanship techniques. After completing ‘foal school’ foster homes are found or they join a conservation grazing scheme.
The Exmoor Pony Centre is open to the public who have the opportunity to interact with the ponies and ride on nearly moorland. It is a major means of fund-raising, of imparting knowledge and generating interest in the work of the Trust, which in turn attracts donations and legacies
The Board is now looking to appoint Trustees to support the charity in delivering its new strategy. This will ensure the Moorland Mousie Trust will not only continue its brilliant work but to also grow and secure the future of the Exmoor Pony. We are specifically seeking experience in governance (Potential Chair), finance, law or the equine world.
