The Charity

Dementia ruins lives and affects more and more people around the world every minute. Recently, the world’s largest ever Alzheimer’s market research study from Norvartis, discovered 91% of people believed the solution to tackling diseases lies in medical research

BRACE is a charity dedicated to defeating dementia through medical science. Our vision is a world free of dementia.  Founded in Bristol in 1987, the charity pioneered fundraising for dementia research long before the cause achieved the profile or general acceptance it has today.   BRACE now funds research at seven universities in South West England and South Wales,  often making  possible the small first steps that lead on to bigger things, a vital part of the international drive to defeat dementia.

Despite the growth of recent years, BRACE remains small and personal, with a team of just six staff. There are eleven trustees and dozens of volunteers.  All BRACE’s income derives from voluntary fundraising – community fundraising, business support, challenge events and legacies.

The Role

Brace is now looking to recruit a Community Fundraiser to develop the support and networks that already exist in Devon and build a broader supporter base in the County.  You will be based from home with regular support from the Head Office but working very much on your own initiative to:-

  • Recruit, manage, support and inspire volunteer fundraisers in Devon
  • Identify potential support within businesses and community groups and develop relationships that lead to fundraising or speaking engagements
  • Seek charity of the year support and sponsorship
  • Provide a point of contact for enquiries to BRACE in Devon and represent the charity
  • Create fundraising opportunities around low maintenance events, e.g. Cuppa 4 a Cure
  • Promote exiting BRACE fundraising options, e.g. lottery

The Ideal Candidate will offer:

  • A track record as a professional fundraiser
  • Excellent ability to motivate, inspire and influence people, with strong networking skills and proven ability to build long-lasting relationships
  • Able to present confidently to community groups and business audiences
  • Willingness to work flexibly in order to adapt to the needs of supporters and the charity
  • Able to work unsupervised and independently from home and on the road
  • Full, clean driving licence and own vehicle (mileage payable)

Recruitment Process:

  • Please e-mail your CV and supporting statement in application to our Recruitment Partner, Jackie Dawkins at Shine Charity Recruitment (jackie@shinecharityrecruitment.co.uk) by 29 March 2019
